Taking medicine

So, after battling with my kids on taking medication. I figured out that I better keep all the syringes (of course with no needle) that I get from hospitals and use them for taking medicine.

So I have them in all shapes and sizes. They came in handy depending on the size of the bottle. And guess what?

They are good because you get the accurate measurements unlike using the teaspoons.

 And the kids get to push the medicine in by themselves, something they consider so much fun.

So no more fights while taking medicine, but sometimes we still do, when they dislike the taste of the medicine, but trust you me, it still much easier because it does not get to spill all-over me, and sometimes before they know it, I have pushed the medicine right in – and they are on their way to swallowing.

Once I have used them, I clean them up and sterilize them.

I never said

I just love this song...We can hold on to God regardless of how things look! His grace is more more than sufficient!

The moral of the story is…..

Our boy woke up sometime back looking like this;

The sanguine side of my hubby tells me, "Guess what Honey, Mnara is seeing in a normal way".

So, I get confused and I ask, “What do you mean Hun?”

 “His eyes were born full screen, at least one eye can now see how a normal person sees” He replies.

I kicked his stomach - you don’t talk like that about my boy! ha!!ha!ha!

Anyway, we took him to see a Doctor in a general hospital, and he was given some medication to deal with the inflammation. The doc did not have much to say; neither did he have an idea of what the swelling was all about.

The next day, my cool boy was on full screen, good for him! Needless to say the same day, we were going to see his private pediatrician for his normal check up, need I say that my girl Tana is also on inhalers, something that we needed a second opinion about as well.

On seeing our boy the private pediatrician indicated that, he did not even need the eye drops to deal with the inflammation, he thought that he must have hit himself with something.

Well, so we stopped the medication, but the boy was already good.

On Sunday, out dear girl Kendi-woke up with the same swelling-so who hit her now?

Someone is walking around my house when my kids are asleep and hitting their eyes.

Anyway!  We decided to use Mnara’s medication on her and she was good to go!

The moral of the story is…

The moment you notice that your child is sick-this is what YOU MUST DO before you even think of anything or anyone!

PRAY!
Pray that God gives you wisdom on the whole issue,
Pray that God leads you to the right doctor
Pray for the Doctor that will attend to you
Pray that God will give the doctor the wisdom to diagnose where your child is ailing from
Pray that they will subscribe the right medication to your child
Pray all the way to hospital
Pray on your way back home
And finally – GIVE THANKS!

I think for a long time- we have treated Doctors as gods because they deal with issue of life and death, things that seem mysterious to a normal mind. We forget that they are human beings just like us and they are prone to error.  I have 100% respect for doctors but I have also in the recent past witnesses extreme weird cases of negligence omission.  These days- like never before second opinions have become a must do, because trust for doctors is slowly diminishing.

So mothers lets pray!

One shoe fits all.

Does once shoe fit all? - Never for motherhood!

I like to borrow principles and great ideas from mothers! But one thing I have also learnt is that, we are all different, different personalities, different callings, different -different. While some things are ground rules, for example discipline for children, we must always remember that we have been called to raise a Godly generation and only the creator has the manuscript for your house and the way your life should be.

I am choleric, I work with goals. Like baby 1, 2, 3….okay now what? I look for a new goal..I start an adventure in cooking. I am all mad about cooking now, and trying new stuff in my house…but even my husband knows better, once I feel like I have mastered that area…I will move on  to a new exiting thing…may be sawing…ha! Who knows?  Some of us are sanguines'….it must be fun all the way, others are melancholic, everything must be where it ought to be! And phlegmatic, as long as there is peace in my life….I am good to go Halleluyah!

So a few lessons that I have learnt

Know what you want and see if it works for you.
Define your ideal. Some of the things that we think are ideal are only ideal because someone else has defined them for us as ideal. I was sharing with some couples yesterday who were thinking our current life, home set up is not the ideal, so who defines the ideal? For me the bible defines the ideal. And for any couple, if love and respect is upheld, that is the ideal, how you work around the roles and responsibilities squarely depends on your context.   God will judge you on the two principles. Husbands love your wives and wives respect your husbands. I am not sure God is interested in who is cooking; who is washing the kids, the society might want to dictate this to us. So define your ideal and please don't judge other Mums using your ideal.

Define your minimums
What are your minimums as a mother in bringing up your children? Then, don’t worry much after that. I like to personally bath my children, and will do that regardless of how much it may cost me. I like to feed them too. So for me, those and others are like minimums. But for someone else, they may not be. So define your minimums and stick to them, and please do them because they are right in your eyes, not because they make you feel good, or make others feel good about you!

Know your context
Know your home, know – understand it fully. Are you able to be home early? Good. Are you home late? Good, if truly you cannot do anything about it. Are you on night shift, very good? Really, all I want to say here is that not all homes are same. I wish I was a lecturer, and then I could plan my time around my home-but I cannot.  I get home by 5:30 latest, so we have dinner at 6:30pm, but other mums gets home at 8pm, so the diner has to be at 9pm….our context are different. Some of us need two househelps, some of us; one will do well with one. Okay really, JUST STOP COMPARING your home with another. If you can learn a few things that can work for you and they are of benefit good, if not. Keep moving on to your destiny and appreciate your context to bits! God knows it and will help you work round it.

Ask God for wisdom
Rely on your heavenly Daddy for each an every day. We need HIM-Desperately to guide us as mothers. He has the manuscript  for your life. He knows what works for you and what does not. Pray, seek him. With God you can never go wrong!

And I dare say! BEFORE YOU TRY ANY OF THE ABOVE! SEEK HIM!

So what have you learnt Mums? Lets share.

Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow

I am wondering how to teach my sweet girl Kendi the concept behind yesterday, today and tomorrow
Because she uses these words interchangeably and we get confused sometimes.

For example if any one of us is late coming home she will say;
“Mum/Dad, tomorrow you came late”

When I drop her in school she says;
“See you tomorrow Mum” (Okay she is supposed to come home the same day)

She will also say;
“I am going to school yesterday”

For an event that took place yesterday
“Today we went to see Levi”
“Or today we went swimming”

Oh goodness me! These words are always jumbled up!

Have an articulate day!
