Busy but loving it...

The last two months have been busy. Nevertheless, I have continued to enjoy most of ALL a wonderful pleasant walk with God. I have failed terribly, disobeyed  and repented and continued to desire this awesome walk with God. This is the center and the pillar of my life. At the same time, i have continued to enjoy God's love in my life in a million ways as below...
We welcomed our nephew...Jayden Josef Karega, Congrats to Sly and Alex....
Love love him!!!
Hanging out with the Kids...they love love to watch National Geographic on my phone...and you can all guess what happens to my credit...
Lillie's in our home. This is a sight to behold...
 Beautiful...we are all out gardening!!!!!

Enjoying my 6th Marriage anniversary at an amazing get away place. Thanks Hubby!!!!!
Just in case you are wondering...this is what i was looking at...right at the door of our tented  cottage
Married to this man for six years and i LOVE him to BITS!

Been up and about with the kids too...
Been hiding in this lovely place for a few days... we keep checking out fair places to take time off to rejuvenate. This place cost us 4,000kshs per day as family (50USD). Of course we cooked for ourselves ( well, i carry frozen food, my help cooks for a whole day before i travel, so  i pack it all and keep in the fridge once we arrive). It was fun being in the forest and alone.
Kids helping me out with cleaning...
.. some fire time too...
...kids would sleep in the loft...they loved it...
Hubby helping in the kitchen
Someone having some good me-time...
just having a relaxed day...
Kids on donkey ride
they loved it...
relaxing
just chilling by the fire
loving on each other
book warms
more relaxing
more fun...
In all things we give thanks to God. One of the reason i have been off the blog is because i am in transition, changing jobs and thats also the reason we thought we need to take some time off as a family and realx a bit before i take on a new assignment soon....

A brothers' miracle!

Well, the past weekend we went visiting our parents and they offered us three chickens, as take away. The deal was to carry them with us and slaughter in our homes but the men in the house (my hubby and my bro) agreed to finish the business of slaughtering right there so that we carry finished products.

Well, this was a grand opportunity for my bother of whom I had talked about in a previous post on slaughtering kuku (chicken) to prove that in deed God delivers-including phobias! So here goes my brother, truly the Lord has led him to a rock that is higher than himself!
This was the first one-he can afford a good smile!
The second one-He is facing the giant again!
Done with you Chicken! You terrorized my childhood but NEVER again!

What is in it for them!

Last weekend, we joined our friends the Roberts to a children’s home in Narok. We were so blessed to have been part of this and just to experience the work that the Roberts have been doing, it awesome to say the least!!!!!

I broke down, those of you who know me; know how I handle certain things. When we got inside the home, the Kids came running to Rosemary – (the owner of the home), calling her Mummy, Mummy and they all hugged her. So what did Emmah do? I started crying, my hubby knew this was coming and he kept saying, please be strong for the kids. Well I tried apart from when they started singing for us and I began fidgeting about it gain. The kids also rushed to hug the Roberts because they are very dear to them.

Please check the Roberts blog for more information on this, they have a great camera and capture very good details.

The reason I write this is two-fold.

One, I think we need to be extremely sensitive to the needs around us. There are a million genuine needs that we can support. This was a big challenge on our part. And I also believe that orphans and widows are part of Gods’ heart beat. My current help is a widow and I respect that, and I would never like to do any form of injustice to her, first because she is human like I am, but also because I am super sensitive to the fact that she has a husband who watches over her day and night just like the orphans who have a father watching over them day and night. He is the Almighty God. So please, let us open our eyes, our needs are right before us.

Secondly, I think we need to expose our children to the needs in the world. You should have seen Kendi after the trip. She had so many questions. Who are these children? Where did they come from? Where are their Mummies and Daddies? and we had to answer all of them.

We have in the past visited childrens’ home, I never leave the vehicle I let my hubby do it all and then we head  back home. But I know we made a resolve with my hubby that we would expose our children to the needs in the community, they need to interact with other needy children and appreciate what they have and also realize that there is a lot to be done.

We hope this way, they will be part of change and Instead of sailing in the current boat of "what is in it for me", they will be asking – "What is in it for them"!

Husbands of working Mums

I thought about this subject last night as my wonderful husband dropped me at the airport. Yes I am out again. It made me think about how the days ahead are going to be for my hubby with the three kids. It made me appreciate him all the more, love him in a new way and ask God for Grace as he carries on through the week.

My hubby is wonderful with the kids…he is always commended by his friends for his excellent job with the them and of which I am completely proud of! We are coming from a society where men did not interact much with their children; their role was / sometimes still is that of provision -full stop. I therefore really appreciate the role my hubby plays with the kids, he sometime stays in the crèche in our church, full of Mums church and keeps brave as the only man – taking care of our kids. And if you ask him about it- He says, these are my kids too and if anyone has a problem, they can deal with themselves.

I also appreciate him because we are coming from a society where men can travel, but women must look for jobs that suit home keeping. I agree, this is wonderful and if possible, every mother should pursue it, I have pursued it and I have seen grace, but there are times when even the best of Jobs does not suit all your needs and expectations. Such  times, you appreciate your husband, his support and his love.

Yes I am away, but I am so glad to have the support of my husband, he calls me every night to pray for me over the phone,-not to mention how many times during the day. He will cal every morning so that I talk to the kids before they go to school and Skype in the evening so I get to see them all and chat more. Most of all, he believes in what I do, he believes in my work, he supports me and tells me "go for it, you can do it, there is grace…we will miss you but please go!"

So in other words, I just want to say that as a working mum, I appreciate the role of my husband in keeping it all together and helping me stay sane.  Truly, I am sure there are other working mums who will agree with me on this one.

Hair do...

I discovered it is easier to have my girls’ hair made in our house rather than take them to the salon. I just need to put on an interesting kids DVD on and before they know it the hair is done. This makes my life a bit sane. At the salon, it takes ages, they fidget, they ask for all sorts of things and they get irritable and tired so fast. So this works. I got someone who comes and now I have two because we have started braiding Tanas’ hair as well.

Watching a Christian Kids DVD as hair is being braided
showing of their heads to Daddy...

A first for Tana
A very happy girl. She could not wait for hair to be made.

How do you value them?

We were brought up in a culture where we felt valued based on school performance.  To make it worse the 8-4-4 system does not help much.  It was about what number you were at the end of the term that determined how holidays were going to be for you. Worse still, this brought with it rivalry among brothers and sisters’ because those who performed better walked around the house feeling a little proud than the others, and what were the others left to feel?

Did the society help? NO! They would always ask, what number were you? Actually the entire village decides if you were to amount to anything or not depending on your school performance. Oh and need I say, they would take this further to decide if you picked up your mothers genes or your fathers. Depending on who was sharp and who was foolish.

Well, I have a different thinking. I believe that God created each one of us for a purpose. Well, you don’t get to hear that much and the school systems sometimes do not help us. I am not sure that God created any one of us to be a liability – we are all special to Him with a clear and specific mandate.

When I was in high school, (boarding) there were a few times that I did not make it to go for mid-term because those who did not perform well in school, were denied the chance to be with their families! – How bad could that get? Oh and the excuse was that we needed to stay on school and read.

Okay- so literally a bunch of fools were left in school to help themselves. I can assure you, we did nothing close to that. We rebelled- we enjoyed life, we slept for long hours, we ate the good food because the kitchen was cooking for a few fools and therefore the food tasted better and we loved it.

But I remember once of those times, one teacher during a Christina Union meeting (yes we prayed) told us, God can turn what people call failure into something. She was Mrs Mwangi- never to forget, because her words literally lifted me up from some pit of despair, and for once, I knew my life would count.

Well, today I am Gender and Human rights advisor employed by the UN and working for the government. Not that it is the epitome of greatness and I am not saying that to brag, but I needed to let us know that we all can be something at the end of the day. And that something should be defined by God.  I love my job, I like to assist women, men, boys and girls. I am amazed at how my brain has opened up to gender and human rights issues, I wish that was taught in school , maybe I would have performed better and not gone through he agony of being separated from my family.

So parents- lets be careful of how we value of our children. The society and school system do not help, let’s not make it worse. And if you read this blog, kindly never ask any of my children what number they were in school, please do not measure them on school performance. Because they are more than that, they have awesome unique qualities and character that is destined to  change this world, God will help them discover them and we are trying as much as we can to partner with God in that. We are also hoping that we can get into a system that will nature their gifts rather than kill them.

Two weeks of thanksgiving

Today, I am thankful that I have been home (sometimes) with the kids for almost the last two weeks. It’s been great, it has helped me appreciate many things and love my kids all the more. The house help has been away and it has helped me realize that my kids are now all grown up. That I can do most of things I would love to do while still taking care of three kids. My hubby has also been very supportive. The best part of the leave is when we ALL get to sleep at 2pm and wake up at 4Pm, take a walk and get home for dinner-which have to make. We have traveled in a smelly car, yelled in the car, sang, played together, spanked more often but all in all, had a great superb time!

We are thankful to God and we know it’s through him that we are able to enjoy such times.
