Imitating Aunt Sly...

Aunt Sylvia is expecting her second baby...this is what the kids were doing the other day imitating her. Goodness, these kids are crazy. Well, Aunt Sly, you have your nieces and nephew watching. The girls began, the boy was just imitating the girls, he is definitely clueless of what is going on.
Look at these sweet little things
Mnara, if you only know what you were doing?Tucking socks inside your shirt????

Okay Aunt Sly, we are waiting for that Baby!!!! You have loads of company!

Funny kids

Well, somethings that my kids say-just makes me appreciate the innocence of childhood.

**************************
We are busy slaughtering  a Chicken and Tana says- "Hey, that Chicken has a lot of spaghetti/pasta in its stomach".- Meaning the intestines!!!

*************************
Kendi: Dad, are you going to marry Mum?

Dad: Well, we are already married. I already married her!

Silence (Parents wondering where that came from)

Dad: Why do you ask, what do you mean?

Kendi: No, its okay, its because i also want to marry Tana ( Her Sister)

Parents faint!

Have wonderful -laughter  filled weekend.

Just Moments

A few weeks ago, Tana would go to bed and in five minutes, she will call out for her Dad. Her awesome Dad would always rush to their room and Tana goes “ Dad, I need some water”. After five episodes of the same, on the six or so time, Tana did her new found ritual but instead of Dad rushing to her room – He responds back “I am not a waiter, get out of bed and get yourself some drinking water’…Mum bursts out laughing. Don’t I love Chris?
****************

I have been baking a lot in my house. My househelp loves the cakes apart from the Chocolate related Cakes. During my recent trip (away from home), my hubby says. "Oh, now that you will be away,…I need to take daily measurement of these cakes, even if it means using a ruler at least it will help me know the consumption rate of cakes around here before i surprise myself and find nothing in the fridge!
*******************

We learn many songs from our kids. They sing them at home after a day in school.  Sometimes when we sing the wrong way, Kendi will say “Mum, please stop and sing after me” then she teaches us the whole song. Sometimes she will say go on  to say “Okay now, let’s sing together” (meaning-I seem to be getting it)- she a wonderful teacher!
**************

When I came back from Uganda on Sunday, I found my family at the airport. Nice. Just to let you know how kids react directly to the same issue.

When Kendi saw me, she ran and gave me a huge huge and hug, forgetting that there are security measures at the airport.

Tana on the other hand jumped up and down over and over again at the same spot – shouting and yelling …Mummy mummy mummy mummy, oblivious of the fact that the waiting area was full of people who were all staring at her!

You want to know about Ethan- he was just fascinated by the many lights at the airport. I think it hit home that Mum was here, when we got into the car and the kisses followed.

Hope you had a fun filled weekend!

Motherhood moments

Tana sometimes gets very cranky and emotional. Dad, tired of trying to figure out what its all about he says : "Tana when you grow up please write a book " Emotions driven life" I am done here"

**********************
Kendi looks at Mum on Sunday before we head out for service and says - "Mum, let me make your blouse. I want you to look pretty. Oh...how sweet!!!!

******************
Kendi gives Tana a spoon which Tana was apparently looking for. Tana just picks it and walks away. Kendi runs and grabs it back, and then she says.."Tana, i think you forgot to say something". Tana says " Thank you". Kendi hands-over the spoon again and says "Welcome".

******************
Tana discovered her dress is torn. She runs to Mum and says "Mum my dress is broken" Ha!ha!

*****************
Tana wakes up and shouts "Mum I have sleeped for long"

*******************

Dad finds Tana eating chalk and asks "Tana are you pregnant?"

My boss

Today, we spent most of the morning at school getting updates from teachers on how our kids are progressing. It was quite an interesting time to hear other peoples opinions of your children, it a very objective way of looking at them and we just thank God that our kids are fine, not perfect though and the teachers love them so much.

So I get home and I am having a one on one conversation with Kendi that goes like this.

Mum: Kendi, I had a good talk with Ms. Joy today and she tells me that there are a few things that we need to work on

Kendi: Even me i will talk your boss

The conversation ends here because i am in shock!

Okay guys-this caught me off guard. But to be honest-i thought it was too much coming from my little girl, to to to wise for her age, but it made me wonder, if our kids were to talk to our employers, what story would they hear?Do we maintain same standards that we demand on them.

Have a great weekend.

Once again, I am little bit busy than usual, but will keep trying to blog as much as i can.

Anything.

I sent Kendi to get me a diaper for Ethan - she has kind of become our errand girl in the house.

So she goes upstairs and suddenly I hear a lot of commotion, things literally falling apart

So Mum shouts  "Kendi, what is happening?"

Kendi says "Anything"

That is her way of saying - Nothing.

Have a fun-filled weekend.

Kisses

I was informed by Tanas’ teacher that if any of her classmate’s cry- she always tells them. No crying here-you are not a baby, only Ethan (Her brother). Talk of picking Dad and Mums words verbatim.

***************************

Every time Tana scratches her butt, she says "there is a crocodile in my butt". Can someone tells me what she means? What has a crocodile got to do with an itchy butt?

****************************

The other day – the girls found Dad and I Kissing (nothing more-just kissing) Kendi shouts-"Hey…why are you guys kissing?" Dad says- “Because she is my babe”.

I am not sure how to deal with this, the last time this happened- a few days later, I found the two girls kissing in their room. Any help or advice?

Have an awesome weekend!!!!

The calls...

The other day Kendi goes for a longcall and she suddenly yells – Po-op come out!!!!!!  The rest of us at the living room burst out laughing- she must have been having constipation!

Still on this topic- my girls are funny. They are always competing on who poops' the biggest and the most! And either the Dad or I have to be the referee. They always shout – Mum/ dad, I have poopd’ a BIG one! Come and see…! before we even get there, the either sister  has already arrived at the site to witness if what she can see is bigger than her previous download...yikes!

I ask Kendi to go and pee, and she replies  – "Mum I am okay- pee is still sleeping". Meaning she is not ready to go for a short call. Alah!

I am not doing something

Okay, truly my kids sometimes amuse me.

Picture this.

Tana pours some food on the carpet and does not take the initiative to pick up the pieces.
she knows very well, Mum will not be amused but she goes hiding.

So when Mum appears at the sitting room, and honestly not knowing what has happened and for another reason calls out for Tana

This is the answer she gets

Tana : Mum, I did not do something.

and who said you did something or anything for that matter?

I guess the guilty are always ashamed, its a statement that works well with the kids.
******************************

Mum sends Kendi to get for her some tissue to blow her nose,  the conversation goes something like this;

Mum: Kendi get me some tissue

Kendi  gives a good stare at Mum, eye ball to eye ball and says;

"Mum,you need to say , Kendi get me some tissue PLEASE..."

Okay, I know we have been teaching them, the need to say Please, Sorry and Thank you...but who is the parent here! ha!

So Mum apologizes and says

"Kendi kindly get me some tissue please"

The girl runs for the tissue.

So don't preach water and take wine...they are more keen than you think. Set standards that you are willing to keep.

No saying No.

Our kids like to answer No when asked to do many things. A normal conversation will go like this.

Mum: Kendi and Tana, please get inside the house, it’s a cold day
Kendi or Tana: Mum, No...we want to play outside.
Mum: But its cold
Kendi or Tana: No, its not

Mum: No saying No to Mum, you need to honor and respect Mum, I am saying you get inside because its cold and you can easily get a flu. So, no saying No to mum, please get inside.
Kendi or Tana: Okay...(with some attitude)
Mum: Okay who?
Kendi or Tana: Okay Mum.

So the other day-a cold day, the kids were indoors and they were playing all over the seats. I was sleeping on the big couch reading a book; Tana comes over to me and asks me to move so that she can jump from the seat. I told her No, I am resting and reading a book, she needs to look for another seat to jump from.

This is the response i got "Mum, No saying No to Tana, please move"

May be if I said "Okay" - She would have gone further to say
"Okay who?"
and I am supposed to answer
"Okay Tana"

Dear me, how do we do this? ...why do they not understand you are the parent here?

Lollypop!

I have been following up on what has been happening at the Daily Vacation Bible School.

The teacher recently narrated a story about a boy named Peter who had been sent to the shop and lost some money on his way home.

The teacher asked the kids – what would you do if you found the money that Peter had lost and you knew it was Peter who lost it?

My sweet bold Kendi raises her hand and says

“Teacher, I would take the money and buy lollypop!”

Okay- too innocent- I was told the class burst out laughing.

Well, looks like we need to do more training on that area. We hardly give our kids lolly-pops and when they bump into them in the supermarket, they say "Hi lolly-pops" talk of kids and getting your attention!

We always in return ask them to say "bye lolly-pops" and they obediently wave goodbye.... I guess wondering why their trick didn't work.

So, I guess this is the ONE thing she would LOVE to do-just get hold of money and buy the lolly-pops!

The seers!

Hey! People say I see tomorrow and when I wink, you would think someone clapped their hands!

Well grab yourself some oranges, eat the peels as well and join my world of great sight!

If you think I am being funny, check out my Mums' boyfriend-He sees tomorrow too, His eyes found their way to my generation!

How do you argue with Jesus?

Kendi came home on Monday with a hurting heel; we had bought her some new shoes that did not go very well. You know those first time blisters with new shoes. It was bad, it was almost bleeding.

The next morning, Tuesday (it’s usually games day in school) they are supposed to wear sports shoes, she loves her sports shoes to bits! She can wear them every day if allowed. Though the previous night she had convinced me that she will have to go to school in crocs, it clicked in her mind that  morning that its games day and so the story changed.

When I told her she must wear her crocks because the heel was still hurting, she told me firmly.

“Mum-Jesus healed me at night”

Okay- what was I supposed to say?

Do I tell her, no- Jesus has not healed you yet?

Well, I told her that, yes Jesus has healed her, but sometimes the wound takes some time to heal.
She continued to emphasize how Jesus had healed her and to make the matter better; she started practicing her memory verses as if preaching to me.

So I decided not to “weaken” her faith in healing.

I said – “Okay, Jesus healed you, so wear your sports shoes!”

She finally said – you see, I am healed; I am not even feeling pain.

I was so sure, she was acting strong and she was likely to limp the whole day, but how do I argue with Jesus.

Have a good  weekend.

The toes

Mnara munching his toes!

Traditionally, it is said that once your baby starts eating their toes or rather putting their toes in their mouth, it is time for Mum to get pregnant again.

I am told that this is what our grandmothers and great grandmothers used to determine when to conceive the next baby-no wonder the spacing of our parents!

So, am I thinking about another baby? Lets see.

Am I a traditionalist? Well if you look at how I have spaced my kids-may be, though I was not informed by the toes.

Have a good weekend and take care of your toes-a pedicure would work just right!

Excuse me-i just sneezed!

Well, it’s not like I hang around my house waiting for some funny comments from my kids so that I can share on funny Friday.

Well sometimes there is nothing funny around here other than a busy life, which we appreciate.  But while we are all busy and moving on-the kids will always have some drama.

So the other day – My Sister purity visited, it was so kind of her-and needless to say, my hubby had planned to take me out for dinner. Okay some husbands had planned to take their wives out for dinner-a surprise dinner and my hubby was part of the schemers! I was so thrilled, I was on cloud nine…not just about the dinner but because that evening I found a dinner dress on our bed, a necklace and earrings to match.

This my man! had contacted my designer (clothes) and he has asked her to make a dinner dress for me. Does anyone of you have a clue when was the last time this Momma wore a dinner dress? Not even my wedding night, because during my wedding diner-I wore jeans and a simple top.

Anyway- my Sister – Yes my sister came over and so, it was easier leaving the three kids with house help and  her! Gave me loads of peace while dinning out !

So the next morning- I asked my sister how the evening went - Yes! We came home pretty late.

Purity said that our Kendi (her niece) had continuously said that her bum bum (butt/behind) is sneezing. And for a while, my sister did not know what she meant. Then Kendi said again, "my bum bum is sneezing so  much…"
Oh for sure, your guess is as good as mine! She was passing gas! Oh my daughter! Is that why people have to say excuse me? They actually sneeze Mmmmh!

So the next time my daughter tells me her bum bum has sneezed-I will be quick to say-"Bless you"!

Have a Healthy weekend!

Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow

I am wondering how to teach my sweet girl Kendi the concept behind yesterday, today and tomorrow
Because she uses these words interchangeably and we get confused sometimes.

For example if any one of us is late coming home she will say;
“Mum/Dad, tomorrow you came late”

When I drop her in school she says;
“See you tomorrow Mum” (Okay she is supposed to come home the same day)

She will also say;
“I am going to school yesterday”

For an event that took place yesterday
“Today we went to see Levi”
“Or today we went swimming”

Oh goodness me! These words are always jumbled up!

Have an articulate day!

Some weird things

Some weird things I did when I was pregnant

  • I  only ate sausages  from Walkers restaurant – to be precise the one in town, reinsurance plaza, so when I needed a sausage my hubby would hide under the seat.
  • With Kendi- I loved Java food, It is expensive I know, but I would beg my hubby for just a meal there!, even if it is once a fortnight!
  •  With Tana, even the mention of the word Java would nauseate me- I used to eat Ethiopian food that is what I loved, so I lived in Habesha!
  • I never ate chicken when I was pregnant, I just couldn't stand it and have never liked it much ever since, especially when it stewed…
  • I feel in love with Mandazi and Chapati when I was pregnant with all the three and to date, when I log into a hotel, they better have mandazi, and if it is lunch, the stew is accompanied by Chapati. When I find you cooking chapati in your house, be sure I will borrow if you are not offering….blame it all on motherhood!
  • When I was pregnant with Kendi, at one time I did mobilized my hubby, Alex and his wife to be, Sylvia to take me to Pizza garden, Westlands at 10pm, because I wanted Pizza from Pizza garden, you would have thought they grow them there. After we ordered and it was served at the table, I could not even eat a bite, I got nauseated, and they almost strangled me-put me in a taxi and sent me back home!
  • With Mnara, I ate ugali and Maziwa Mala (sour Milk) almost every day! In mean, both Lunch and Dinner!

Well and many more things!...

I once asked my Mum how it was for her, when she was pregnant and she made my day! She told me she hated the sight of BLACK shoes…this would send her throwing up!

I think when we are pregnant, our husbands have a hard time understanding us…but neither do we understand ourselves…so really!!!!!

Let me hear your story and have an awesome weekend.

No thank you

 Funny Friday

Chris and I try as much as we can to teach our children to be polite. And as many of you know, saying please, thank you and sorry is one of the hardest things to train a child. Yes, because we are all born sinners and as the bible says – Folly is bound up in the heart of a child-Proverbs 22:25 .

So, we thank God that our kids are slowly caching up- but sometimes it gets to the extreme.

We have trained them to say "No Thank You" in case they are not interested in an offer (mostly food)

A typical conversation will go like this;
Mum: Tana, you want some banana
Tana: No thank you Mum.
Mum: Okay

So this week, we were faced with another version of No thank you from Tana.
The conversation went like this;
Dad: Tana
Dad: Tana, I am calling you (adding some volume)
Dad: Tana, Come here (adding more volume)
Tana: No thank you Dad

Dad Faints!

Okay-she was so polite- yes she was not interested in that offer, but this one does not require that sort of Politeness!

We are now back to the drawing board

Have a fun-filled weekend!
