Samuel 3:11 “The Lord told
Samuel, behold I am about to do a thing in Israel…” and the story goes on and on.
We have two books of Samuel. 1st and 2nd Samuel. Samuel is one if the great prophets in the Old
Testament. I may not have studied much about him, but I know that through
Samuel, God brought down kingdoms and established others. It’s through Samuel
that we encounter David. And through David, God establishes His everlasting Kingdom
through our Lord Jesus Christ and don’t we love to read the book of Psalms, mediating
upon the word of the Lord as David and others poured out their hearts to God.
Don’t we learn so much about Saul
on the need to obey other than sacrifice, don’t we love to hear about David and
Goliath, don’t we love to hear about the Wisdom of Solomon, don’t we envy (holy
envy) the relationship that David had
with Jonathan. I mean we read the two books of Samuel and your heart is filled
with awe about our God. That in deed He is mighty to save and true to His word.
When God said, “behold I am about
to do a thing in Israel” I would like to bring to your attention that this “thing”
was not birthed by Samuel; this “thing” was born in pain by one
woman, known as Hannah. She may only appear in the first two or so chapters of
the 1st book of Samuel, but it all began with Hannah.
Hannah prayed to God that He
would grant her a son. She was desperate. And her crying with so much despair and anguish to
God changed destiny. Hannahs’ cry was way beyond herself! May be she did not
know, but we know. She may never have seen it but we live it! We testify of it.
Are
you crying out to God today? Are you calling him on behalf of your children?
Are you persistently seeking Him and waiting on Him. are you desperate like
Hannah? Please persist. Just keep pressing on. Your cry to the Lord could be
the very foundation through which God will establish part of His divine will on
earth. The next time you read about Samuel, be encouraged that it all began
with Hannah.
Please pray for my grandson and his wife. They have been married five years and have longed for a child. Her pregnancy was confirmed two months ago, but this week she miscarried. We know that God knows all about this, that all things work for good for those who love Him (and they do) so we know that in His time, His "thing" will be accomplished -- but being wrapped in the comfort of His love and prayers of His saints is a blessing. Thank you for writing of Hannah!!
